The Best Autumn Essential Oil Blends for Your Home

As the days shorten and the air turns crisp, our instinct to create warm, cosy spaces at home becomes almost irresistible. Autumn is the season of transformation - and the right essential oil blends can completely change the atmosphere of your home, shifting from the bright freshness of summer to something deeper, warmer and more grounding. Here are our favourite autumn essential oil blends and how to use them.

What makes an autumn essential oil blend?

Autumn fragrances are defined by warmth, depth and earthiness. The best autumn blends draw on woody base notes like cedarwood and sandalwood, warming spices like cinnamon, clove and ginger, and earthy middle notes like patchouli and vetiver. Citrus top notes work beautifully in autumn blends too - grapefruit, orange and bergamot add brightness that stops the warmth becoming heavy.

The result is a layered, complex scent that feels grounding, seasonal and deeply comforting - exactly what you want on a grey October afternoon.

Our top autumn essential oil blends

Earthy Tones

Our most overtly autumnal blend. Grapefruit, cedarwood and cinnamon - the citrus brightness of grapefruit lifting the deep, woody earthiness of cedarwood into something beautifully balanced. A touch of cinnamon adds the seasonal warmth that makes this blend feel unmistakably autumnal. Excellent in candles, wax melts and diffusers. One of our top performers in soy wax with an excellent hot throw.

Forest

Sweet orange, ylang ylang, cedarwood and sandalwood create a scent that genuinely evokes damp woodland on a crisp autumn morning. Deep, complex and grounding - Forest is beautiful year-round but reaches its peak in autumn and winter when its woody richness feels most at home.

Amber Woods

Our most sophisticated autumn blend. Patchouli, sandalwood, cedarwood and benzoin anchored by a bright citrus lift of lemon, grapefruit and eucalyptus. Rich, warm and timelessly elegant - this is a candle maker favourite for autumn gift collections, and one of our cleanest CLP profiles with no warning signs at up to 8% in candles.

Man Cave

Bergamot, cypress and cedarwood. Fresh, woody and deeply masculine - this blend works beautifully as an autumn living room or home office scent. The cypress adds a green, almost outdoor quality that pairs perfectly with the warmth of cedarwood.

Autumn in your candles and wax melts

Autumn is the most important season for candle makers. Consumer demand for home fragrance peaks between October and December, and the autumn months are the perfect time to test and launch your seasonal range. Our earthy and woody blends are specifically tested in soy and coconut wax for candles and wax melts, and all come with CLP documentation at standard candle usage rates.

If you are building an autumn collection, we recommend a range of 3 to 5 scents covering different aspects of the season - an earthy woody, a spiced citrus, a soft floral and a deeper resinous blend will cover most customer preferences.

Autumn in your diffuser

For your home diffuser, try our Earthy Tones or Forest blend in the morning for a grounding start to the day, and switch to Amber Woods in the evening for a deeper, more contemplative atmosphere. Run your diffuser for 30 to 60 minutes at a time rather than continuously.
